Screw conveyors move bulk material — powders, granulate, grain, sludge — horizontally or on an incline, along an enclosed route at a controlled rate. They are used by food, chemical and construction material plants, by farms and by wastewater treatment works. We design and build them in our own plants in Tomești (Iași, Romania) and Bălți (Moldova).

When a screw conveyor is the right choice
The situations where a screw is the correct answer — and the one where we recommend a different machine of ours.
You convey powders or granulate and the dust must not reach the hall: a screw is enclosed along its whole route, unlike a belt.
You need a constant, adjustable rate rather than just getting the material from one point to another — diameter, pitch and speed determine the throughput, so the screw can meter-feed the downstream machine.
The material is sticky, fibrous or contains foreign objects — sludge, screenings, waste — and a centre shaft would clog: the shaftless version is chosen.
The route is short or medium, horizontal or inclined, and passes between existing machines: the feed and discharge openings are positioned on your plant layout.
When this is NOT the right machine
If you have to lift material vertically to a significant height, an inclined screw loses a lot of throughput and needs a long run for little height gained.

Frequently asked questions about screw conveyors
What throughput does a 200 mm screw give?
The throughput of a screw is not set by diameter alone: the flight pitch, the speed, the fill level and above all the material all matter — a light powder and a dense one give completely different rates at the same diameter. Send us the material and the required rate and we will calculate the diameter needed.
What is the difference between a tubular and a U-trough screw?
A tubular screw has the flight inside a closed tube: it is the tightest version and takes the steepest inclines, but you cannot inspect the route without dismantling it. The U-trough has removable covers along its whole length, so it can be cleaned and checked completely — which is why it is the usual version in food and pharmaceutical plants, where the product changes frequently.
What is a shaftless screw and when do I use one?
The flight is a load-bearing helical ribbon with no centre shaft, running on a wear liner in the trough. You choose it when the material is sticky, fibrous or contains foreign objects: with no shaft there is nothing for the material to wrap around and no intermediate bearings to seize. It is the standard answer for sludge and screenings — we built such a system for the ALAVAL PROD treatment plant.
304 or 316L stainless for food powders?
AISI 304 covers most dry food applications. AISI 316L is specified when the product or the cleaning brings chlorides or acids — salt, brines, acidic flavourings, chlorine-based sanitisers — because the molybdenum in 316L resists the pitting corrosion that chlorides cause in 304. Tell us what you convey and how it is cleaned.
Do you build ATEX versions for dust?
If your application falls under ATEX, tell us the classified zone from your plant documentation — it determines the build.
Do you deliver and install across Europe?
Yes. The Tomești plant is in Romania, inside the EU single market, so deliveries within the Union involve no customs and no import duty.
What is the lead time?
We normally send the technical proposal and the price within 48 hours of receiving your process description.
Can you replace an existing screw, keeping the current openings?
Yes — we size the new screw to the positions of the existing feed and discharge openings, so you do not have to modify the routes in the hall. Send us the current dimensions and the material conveyed.
